Two Doors Down

“Quit fusing! Let the radiance take you.” ~Raindrops, Lama Drimed

As I sit here feeling frustrated about spending my time learning the tricks of this world of blogging, wishing instead I could be strolling through our Redwood forest, or down the sandy beach up the road, instead I sip my coffee in attempts to stimulate my brain to function just enough to produce a much needed and witty stab at my attempt to keep this blog blogging. In my last community work class we briefly discussed the roots to community organizing. In sum, community organizing brings power and voice to people, it carries with it a sense of inclusiveness, and can be molded into some sort of structure with a specific mission or vision. Ironic, then, I find it that I am still skeptical on how this assignment for each of my classmates to start a blog brings about this sense of community organizing. For example, my neighbor, who lives two doors down, (I mean if I had decent aim I could probably through a rock from my door and with luck hit her car kind of two doors down) couldn’t even find my blog last week. Did I mention she is also in this community work course with me? I had told her the address and although she couldn’t remember the words exactly, she had attempted several times to search for my blog. No luck. In a scramble at the end of class this week, someone asked how they were supposed to follow other classmate’s blogs. It was suggested that we pass around a piece of paper and write our blog addresses on that. Great. Now I have a comprehensive list if 25+ blog addresses related to social work, ready to follow and comment on. The bigger picture, however, still puzzles me. How does voice and critical perspective on social work issues then carry themselves out of my classroom?

  1. I can't answer that, but you're using your critical thought and community voice just by doing this blog- good job.
